A dogs in action photography workshop experience

WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP AIMED AT?

This intensive workshop is aimed at photographers eager to elevate their skills in dog photography to the next level. If you wish to master the technical challenges associated with photographing fast-moving dogs, develop your artistic vision, and consistently create truly exceptional 'Dogs in Action' images, then this is the workshop for you.

We will deep dive into advanced techniques, explore creative composition, and I will provide you with personalized feedback to help you bring your photography to a professional standard.

Friday 18th:
​In the morning I will guide all the participants to understand the theory, the settings and the shooting techniques explaining how to focus expose and focus correctly a dog in action. ​
In the afternoon we will start the first shooting at the beach with incredible dogs in action in the water and in discdog waiting also for the magical sunset light.

Saturday 19th:
​In the morning I will guide all the participants to the second shooting in the forest to get the perfect confidence with autofocus and dogs in action in difficult conditions.​
In the afternoon, getting the practise's knowledge of the first and second shooting session, we will start the third shooting at the beach with incredible dogs in action in the shallow water and in discdog waiting also for the magical sunset light to bring home amazing photos.

Sunday 20st:
In the morning I will guide all the participants to the fourth shooting in the forest to get the final perfect shots with autofocus and dogs in action in difficult conditions.
In the afternoon I will introduce and explain my complete workflow with Photoshop applying it to a photo taken during the workshop. At the end I will be open to help you individually on your photos and answering to all your questions. At the end all the participants with receive their certificate before the greetings

  • 8:30-12:30 Theory, camera settings and AF, shooting techniques

  • ​​12:30-14:30 Lunch break

  • 14:30-15:00 Reaching the shooting location

  • 15:00-15:30 Setting the cameras

  • 15:30-19:15 Beach shooting discdog and runs in the water until sunset


Saturday 19th:

  • 8:00 Meeting at the shooting location car parking

  • 8:00-8:30 Forest shooting settings

  • 8:30-12:30 Forest shooting to running dogs

  • ​​12:30-14:30 Lunch break

  • 14:30-15:30 Reaching the beach shooting location

  • 15:30-16:00 Briefing on improvement on settings the cameras and issues solving

  • 16:00-19:15 Beach shooting discdog and runs in the water until sunset


Sunday 20st:

  • 8:00 Meeting at the shooting location car parking

  • 8:00-8:30 Forest shooting settings

  • 8:30-12:00 Forest shooting to running dogs

  • 12:00-13:30 Lunch break

  • 13:30-18:00 Editing with Photoshop explained step by step, open discussion and individual support; This entire editing session will be recorded, and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the photos you captured during the workshop.

Hi! I'm Claudio Piccoli, an award-winning dog photographer and founder of the Master in Dog Photography and Dogs in Action Photography school. My passion is capturing the energy and joy of dogs in action, and I love sharing my knowledge through workshops and online courses.
As a professional photographer specialized in the captivating realm of "dog photography," I've had the honor of being recognized as a Nikon Ambassador for Italy and a Nikon School Master. Additionally, I've collaborated on the creation of the esteemed "Master di Fotografia" program in partnership with Corriere della Sera, Gazzetta dello Sport, and Nikon. 
My journey into dog photography stemmed from a deep-rooted passion for dogs, which naturally evolved into a love for capturing their essence through the lens. Over the years, I've discovered immense fulfilment in merging my passion for dogs with the artistry of photography, continuously striving to enhance both my craft and my life through these cherished companionships.

Recognising the complexities inherent in dog photography, I've made it my mission to share my wealth of knowledge and experience through photography workshops held worldwide. Transforming my once-hobby into a fulfilling career, I'm driven by a profound sense of purpose to educate others while championing the welfare of dogs in need.
During my workshops, I endeavour to unveil the vast world of dog photography, particularly in the realm of action shots, highlighting its transformative impact on both personal and professional lives. The hosts : Kim Harney and Heather Panaro

Kim Harvey 

Kim began her journey in the dog community in 2000, working at a dog daycare. After a decade of hands-on experience, she joined Oregon Dog Rescue, where she has been managing the organization since 2013.

Her passion for canine learning led her to spend several years teaching at Dog Days NW, where she became involved in the dog sports community.

At home, she shares her life with six Labradors and enjoys competing in dock diving. Over the years, she has also opened her home to hundreds of foster pups and helped raise dozens of service dog puppies.

Heather Panaro

 

Heather Panaro has lived in Hillsboro, Oregon, for the past 15 years and has been an active member of the local dog community for the last 13.

 

She’s passionate about helping dogs reach their full potential through training, swimming, and dock diving. Her dedication and love for the sport recently paid off when her 2-year-old Labrador Retriever competed in the Dock Diving World Championship and placed 5th in her division.

  • Required Photography Level: This workshop is suitable for both amateurs and professionals, covering both beginner and advanced skill levels. Participants are required to have a basic understanding of their camera settings and how to change them.

  • Suitable Cameras: DSLR or Mirrorless cameras.

  • Recommended Lenses : A focal length between 135mm and 200/300mm is recommended. For example, zoom lenses such as a 70-200mm, 70-300mm, or similar are perfect, as are prime lenses like a 200mm, 300mm, or 135mm. In any case, the most important thing is to learn how to get the best out of your existing equipment.

  • Editing Requirements : none. I will show you how to use Photoshop and I will edit one of the photos taken during the workshop, explaining my workflow step-by-step. I will record the entire session and you will have access to the recording so you can review it thoroughly, perfectly learn every single step, and replicate the process whenever you wish.

  • Physical level : 5-10 minutes walking to reach the beach or the forest from the car parking

  • Shooting Location : Beach and forest reachable in 15-20 minutes car driving
